Equine Acupressure

Lindsay holds BSc (Hons) degrees in Equine Science & Technology and Acupuncture, equipping her with a unique skillset for equine acupuncture. In the UK, only licensed veterinarians can perform needle acupuncture on animals and so instead, she uses acupressure techniques to promote health and well-being in horses.

This is not a massage; it's Equine Acupuncture without needles. I create personalised treatment plans for your horse based on Chinese medicine principles and the Five Elements, which helps me understand their unique needs and personality.

Acupressure is a non-invasive and non-manipulative therapy designed to improve the health and well-being of horses by stimulating acupuncture points with gentle touch. The technique harnesses the principles of traditional Chinese medicine, targeting specific meridian points to promote healing, reduce pain, and enhance overall balance in the horse's body. Ideal for horses that may be sensitive to needles or for owners seeking a gentler alternative to issues like muscle tension, joint stiffness, and even emotional stress, while offering a relaxing and effective treatment.

My experience with human acupuncture has shown me that the gentlest touch can effectively activate points whilst its efficacy comes from the correct application of Chinese medicine theory, understanding disease progression in the meridian system, and selecting the right points for treatment.

“Animals have given me so much love and joy throughout my life, it is truly an honour to be able to give them something back”

Complementary medicine or therapy should not be regarded as a substitute for conventional medical care. Neither must it delay treatment with conventional medicine. Failing to provide your animal with protection from "pain, suffering, injury, or disease" (Defra Animal Welfare Act 2006) could result in prosecution. Pet owners should always prioritise their pet's well-being and seek professional veterinary advice before implementing any complementary therapies.

Equine Acupuncture Treatments

Horses that are currently under veterinary care or undergoing rehab, will be required to get veterinary permission prior to treatment, as stated by law. You will be required to sign a consent form to confirm that your Veterinarian is happy for the horse to be treated.

No permission is required for horses that are in general good health who are seeking treatment to maintain wellness, optimise performance or even aid behavioural issues. We do have duty of care to notify your vet if any pathologies are identified during assessment and treatment.

You will be asked to complete an online questionnaire that covers most aspects of your horse's health prior to the appointment. This will provide me with valuable insights and enable me to create a more accurate and tailored treatment plan for your horse’s specific needs.

After treatment it is recommended that the horse be either walked in hand for 15-20 mins or allowed access to turn out. We do not advise riding the horse until the next day to allow for healing and processing.
